Carlsbad – Gateway to Southern California’s Great Beaches

Southern California is known for its number of picturesque communities bordering the beautiful Pacific Coast, and perhaps none are more alluring than Carlsbad, considered "The Village by the Sea." Here, European charm and urban sophistication come together to create a beach playground with near-perfect weather year round. West Inn & Suites offers a wonderful home base from which to enjoy it all.

The region just outside our doors is known for its pristine beaches, which are ideal for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and, of course, building sandcastles with the kids. The beautiful lagoons just inland are also a great spot for jogging, bird-watching, and hiking.

Carlsbad State Beach

Carlsbad State Beach is one of the area's most popular locales and is easily accessible at the foot of the coastal bluffs on Carlsbad Boulevard at Tamarack. Its beach walk at the top of the bluffs is a favorite spot for joggers, dog walkers, and strollers who want to take in the scenery. You can also scuba dive and fish here.

Carlsbad City Beach

Carlsbad City Beach can be found along Ocean Street at Carlsbad Village Drive. With free parking and a four-mile paved walk, it's the best spot to come watch the sunset each afternoon.

South Carlsbad State Beach

South Carlsbad State Beach is situated three miles south of Carlsbad on Carlsbad Boulevard and is a wonderful family beach great for picnicking, surfing, skin diving, and fishing.

Agua Hedionda Lagoon

Agua Hedionda Lagoon is one of Carlsbad's most popular recreation areas with facilities for boating, waterskiing, board sailing, and fishing while those who want to enjoy a beach exploration should check out Batiquitos Lagoon where a scenic nature trail features trail markings, benches, and informational plaques that help visitors experience the area's best birding and wildlife watching.

Buena Vista Lagoon

For the ultimate in experiencing nature, the Buena Vista Lagoon is a true paradise. Here, over 200 acres of freshwater marshlands are home to more than 200 species of wildlife and 50 species of plant life. Come and watch native and migratory birds, ducks and geese, turtles, frogs, and also an occasional flamingo. And don't forget to bring the binoculars!
