From search, to reservation, to walking in the door...it has everything!

I work for an airline so we've been lucky enough to travel a little more than the average. To that point, we seem to be experts at planning last minute trips. In this instance, the second we found the West-Inn hotel in the search function of a website we use often, we really wanted to be there. We have a young-one and the description and the reviews all confirmed this was a family friendly hotel. We called to make the reservation just a few days before our trip was to start and, unfortunately, they had just (merely minutes before) sold the last room they had on Saturday which was right in the middle of our trip and it wasn't going to work as well if we had to find someplace else. It was then, that the front desk (not an 800 reservation hotline in a random city elsewhere) recommended going on a waitlist or standby. As an airline employee, we're used to standby and we really hoped it would come together. AND IT DID. IN a funny quirk, another agent from the hotel called to ask us if we needed anything special or anything to make our stay better...at this time, we didn't know we had the reservation. AFter an awkward exchange of "...wait a minute...are you saying we got the hotel!!?" we both laughed and then I realized, No one's ever called to ask about what we needed from the hotel??? From that point on, this hotel, instantly, stood out above nearly all the other hotels we've ever visited. You'd expect that kind of service from a major chain that's wanting to woo your business, but this hotel - from start to finish - gave more of a mom-and-pop or family hotel-feel with a wonderful and brand new appearance. The staff - every one of them - was pleasant all the time, the cleaning staff were friendly and conversive, the breakfasts were MUCH MUCH better than any continental breakfast I've ever had. Don't get me wrong....don't expect a chef at every table making the perfect DEnver omelet for everyone, but they were the basics with a homemade feel. The staff was attentive, informative, well-prepared and accommodating. FAmily friendly (NOTE: and PET friendly) is an understatement. We asked to go to the beach and get maybe some blankets and a few beach toys for our little one... We got two backpack lounge chairs that were awesome! We're actually looking to buy some for home, we liked them so much. We also were given a beach umbrealla, a boogie board, and a bucket full of beach toys! we didn't need anything else! They provided a free shuttle to/from LegoLand which was a real time/money saver. PARKing at LL costs at least $15/day which saved us 30 bucks over 2 days. Nice van and they provide booster seats for those that need them...who does that!!? FIRst time I'd seen that. The pool was nice and the hottub was huge and a great conversation place for the adults. The complex was confusing at first. There's a Bistro West - High casual dining. A Steak/Seafood West - borderline black-tie...NOTE: They don't have a kids menu. And they have a GAS Station/Mini-Mart as well. You've got everything...a little weird with the gas station, but it all worked and provided a consistent style and cleanliness (impeccable) throughout. The rooms were spacious with two major sections (King Suite). ONe side, normal sized King bedroom. ONe side full size sitting area with couch, desk, sitting chair, large dorm fridge and sink and the couch was a pullout bed. Each section had a 40+" TV WITH a DVD player (2 TVs in one Room!) and additional SVideo and RCA hookups. You could basically hook-up any video device you bring with you AND they have a giant list of DVDs to just borrow...no fee...and it was full of recent selections. The bathroom didn't have a tub, but it didn't have to. The Shower was MASSIVE and well done. The bathroom wasn't large, but, the one sink vanity had room for two side-by-side and more towels than I've ever been provided in a hotel room! We put the Do Not Disturb sign out a couple of days, but they still left us sundries and additional amenities in a large wicker basket by our door each time. To summize: We Loved THis hotel...for everything from the amenities, the above and beyond service, the preparedness, the restaurant (BistroWest...we didn't go to the seafood/steak place, but it looked awesome and very well-attended) the location to the beach, the free hotel parking and free shuttle, the informative, attentive and caring staff and the breakfasts we looked forward to every day (another cost savings)! To the management and staff we commend you on your service and attention to detail. THAnk you, thank you, Thank you for making our stay uneventful, pleasant and a memory worth sharing. I don't think there was a loyalty program here, but we didn't need one...everyone in this hotel complex made everyone feel special and at home! Well done West-Inn...well done!

Best family hotel we have ever stayed in

Our family loved this hotel. From the family feel to the spacious suites we had more than enough space for the 5 of us and great service. The pool was great, the breakfast good and the cookies and milk every night was a highlight for our children. We were there 7 nights and used the guest laundry which was also great. The DVD library was great for the kids as well. The staff went out of their way to provide excellent service. One day we accidentally locked our keys in our rental car and one of the front desk agents went out of her way to help us, call help and got our keys back at no charge.
Thanks to all who made our stay memorable. We hope to come back again soon.

Legoland trip 2015

I love this hotel. The staff are amazing. We took the shuttle to Legoland, and they met were so accommodating. Later they took us to the beach and back, they gave us chairs, towels, and toys for the beach. The rooms are awesome, and the most comfortable beds. Cookies and milk in the evening! Plenty of room to sit and eat or play games. I wish we were staying more than one night. Our whole family agreed that we must come back. This is one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Bravo to the wonderful staff!

Exceptional and friendly service by all staff.

Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and went above and beyond in everything that they did. They provided rides to attractions in Carlsbad and supplied everything we needed for a day at the beach , including umbrellas, chairs and sand toys! All free of charge!

Great family destination

The staff at the West Inn were very courteous. We were part of a wedding party, and this hotel provided a comfortable setting for this family occasion. The complimentary breakfast provided was very good, and the pool was great for the kids to play at. The hotel provided timely shuttles to and from our wedding venue in Carlsbad, which was a big help. The location is only a mile from the beach as well. My wife and I were able to have a restful experience. Thanks to all the staff at West Inn and Suites.

Fantastic place to stay!! This is the one to pick if you are coming to Carlsbad or Oceanside.

We had planned our spring break trip on Expedia and we're staying at a H***** "oceanfront" resort with 2 queens when our college son decided to join. The hotel we were booked in said they could upgrade us to a suite for $250 MORE per night. I located West Inn and Suites on trip advisor ranked #1!!! Saw the two king size beds in room and quickly called Expedia and cancelled. West inn is a delightfully cozy, comfortable and over the top hospitable place to stay. Loved the free loaner beach chairs, cooler and umbrella; the free beer and wine in the afternoon and the yummy chocolate chip cookies and milk at bedtime and my 6 year old said the loaner games and DVDs.
We used the pool and hot tub everyday. Ate breakfast most mornings and don't have any complaints. Every single employee is top notch. It was very easy to get around Carlsbad and Oceanside and San Diego. We rented a van but there was a shuttle. I know why it is #1.

Fantastic & friendly

From the minute we arrived to the time we checked out everyone in the hotel was incredibly friendly and service was truly excellent. I was also struck by how impeccably clean the hotel was everywhere. The room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable to sleep in. Everything looked nearly new or in excellent condition. One example of the excellent service: my young son loves bacon for breakfast and was slightly disappointed when they didn't have it. Marisela in the dining room noticed this and made a special order of bacon for him! The shuttle service to nearby Legoland is extremely convenient. Microwave and refrigerator in the room is a plus. All in all, we highly recommend this place for anyone staying in Carlsbad and we will definitely be returning!!

Above and beyond service!

This hotel truly lived up to the reviews from TripAdvisor. They go above and beyond to take care of their guests. From the moment we checked in, Elizabeth was great! She was very patient and just nice! Amanda was great too as our driver and front desk. They do it all!

Delivered on review.

My family was completely satisfied. Our purpose was to go to Legoland and see family that live in San Diego. I chose the West Inn & Suites based on the reviews of families that have taken the time to write a review. Now I can see why. The staff, accomodations, grounds, and location for our visit was spot on. Could not have chosen a better place to stay in my history of travel to Southern California. There was not one staff team member that I came across that was not helpful or friendly. We booked a two king bed suite for 3 adults and one child. Plenty of room for all of us. The pool was fantastic, parking great, the breakfast good, and location to where we wanted to go was fantastic. They have a wonderful shuttle service which we utilized to go to Legoland. No hidden fee's or charges. Corey Volk [Front Office Manager] is even mailing me back my favorite pillow I left in the room.

Hidden Gem!

If you're planing to visit the San Diego/Carlsbad area (especially with children) this is the place to stay. The customer service here is by far the best I have ever had and this includes stays I've had at some of the world's most prestigious and renowned hotels. The front desk staff literally treat each guest as if you were the only ones here (special thanks to Amanda, Shireena and Emily). The hotel itself is quaint not flashy, but it is extremely clean and well kept. We were traveling with our kids and booked a king deluxe room connected to a double king room. More than enough room for us all. Lovely breakfast is included every morning along with milk and warm cookies every night. The housekeeping leaves a basket full of clean towels and replenishments for the bathroom in a tidy little basket outside the door in the event you do not wish to have services in the room. Complimentary shuttle service to/from Legoland was a bonus for us to avoid the crazy lines of cars and parking fee for the park. A short walk or drive to the beautiful beaches of Carlsbad/Oceanside, the hotel even provides beach chairs and other beach necessities. Close enough to see all the sights of San Diego as well. Wifi is included as well and worked well for all 5 in our family even by the pool. Will definitely stay here again!

Impressive

This hotel has one of the highest rankings in Carlsbad on TripAdvisor and it's easy to see why. This has to be just about the friendliest little hotels we've stayed in anywhere. We arrived at 9:30am not expecting to be able to check in, but sure enough, a room was ready on arrival. We had a double king suite, meaning in addition to having two king beds, it also had a sofa bed - Perfect for our family of 6. We traveled with another family of 6 who had the same type room. The room was very clean and beds super comfortable. There was refrigerator and microwave in the room, and two TVs, one in the bedroom area and one in the "living" area. The hotel is near the freeway, but you could not hear it from the room when the windows were closed.

One thing that makes this hotel so different from the upscale chain hotels in its category: the lack of nickel-and-diming. No resort fees, no parking fees, no wi-fi fees, free breakfast, etc. Even the bottles of water in the room were free. The only caveat: the wi-fi worked only intermittently, but I understand they are working on this. Also, the hotel is not really walking distance to much, but there is a free shuttle that will take you around Carlsbad. There are also two restaurants that we didn't get to try, but did seem pretty popular with the locals. The free breakfast was decent, and the pool area was quiet and nice. The pool is good sized, with a large spa, and they also provide lifejackets and inflatables for kids.

We really enjoyed staying here, and especially the friendliness of the staff. We'll be back!

Top Notch Customer service

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights recently and am still amazed at the service we receive here every time we visit. I travel quite often and I still have yet to have stayed at a property with better staff. They were in process of upgrading the landscaping and exterior of the facility and because of the noise etc. while we were at the pool we were twice given free lunches at the Bistro. A nice touch and something that was not expected.
Rooms are always nice, beds comfortable and a well maintained facility.

Home away from home

My family and I spent about 5 days at this hotel and loved every minute of it. The service was amazing. Each member of the staff was kind and caring. The rooms were big and comfortable. We highly recommend it. Can't wait to go back.

Perfect for business or personal

My husband and I own a local Carlsbad business and have used the West many times for out of town guests as well as personally when we need to stay close to the office. They are pet friendly which sometimes scares me, however, the rooms are always clean and fresh when we arrive.

The staff is friendly and helpful and the beds are super comfortable.

Their daily breakfast is perfect. When you travel, breakfast can add up quickly, and their hot breakfast is the perfect start to the day.

If you are in the mood, they have a first rate Steak House right in the parking lot, or a more casual Bistro that is in the parking lot - both owned by West - and both very good.

I always recommend the West!

Perfect hotel for the family!

We stayed here over Thanksgiving with 4 of our kids. The double king suite was a perfect fit for the 6 of us (with the pullout bed). The room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast each morning was delicious. We enjoyed the pool and the exercise room each day. My family's favorite part of this hotel, however, was the free cookies and milk each evening!! We were central to the soccer fields for my both of my kids and close to the beach. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

Perfect Location for Exploring the San Diego Area

We originally booked the West Inn and Suites because of the great reviews it has on Trip Advisor and because it offers shuttle service to and from Legoland which is about five minutes away. The hotel did not disappoint. We stayed six nights and used the hotel as a base for traveling to various San Diego attractions. The hotel breakfast was great with a variety of both hot and cold offerings. The hotel pool was clean and well-maintained with plenty of towels and a nice jacuzzi. We also ate four times at the on-site restaurant, Bistro West. Even our picky-eater grandson gave it a thumbs-up. The best thing about the West Inn is the service. Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful. They seem to want their guests to have an enjoyable stay.

Peaceful hotel with outstanding service

I rely heavily on reviews to book hotel rooms in unknown areas. I am happy to say that the hotel definitely lived up to the great reviews!

We were staying at a popular themed kiddie hotel just one mile down the road but they didn't have any availability for the weekend so we needed to find a nearby hotel. Enter West Inn and Suits. They came to the themed hotel and picked up our luggage even before we were able to check in to the hotel. Then later that day (at check in time) they came back to the theme park and picked up my children and I and took us to the hotel. Their shuttle driver was so courteous and pleasant to us after a long day of being at the park. She made us feel welcome, gave us dinner ideas, and told the kids about the milk and cookies being served in the lobby in the evening.

The hotel itself was such a nice place with fun Halloween themed details that my kids enjoyed. It was quiet, clean, and the staff was very helpful. The shuttle service to the nearby beach with the complimentary beach towels, toys, and umbrella was such a nice touch. Those are things we couldn't even think about packing and it was nice to not have to rush out and purchase them! After spending days at a theme park hotel and spending money on every little thing, it was quite refreshing to have those little "extras" thrown into our room deal and made the hotel seem more like a boutique.

We enjoyed our stay at the West Inn and would stay here over the themed hotel any day!

A Perfect Stay

Not on the beach but close enough. Not in the town but close enough. Near the train tracks but quiet and peaceful. This is a rare family friendly, pet friendly and totally everyone friendly place to stay. My husband, I and small dog loved it. The room was set up with dog bed, dog bowls and dog treats. There is a dog park and dog walking area bordering the grounds. The plantings are beautiful. The breakfast area is fabulous. The rooms are perfectly comfortable and large. There are two top rated restaurants on the property.. The pool is heated. The hot tub is perfect. There is a shuttle to the beach and town. There is nothing lacking in this lovely inn. We loved it!

Room Tip: No suggestions.

Very Convenient and Nice

Took my mother to see her sister in nearby Oceanside and decided to stay overnight at this hotel. So conveniently located, right next to the freeway exit and although it is also by railroad tracks you hear almost nothing. Nice pool and jacuzzi and delicious full free breakfast - you can't beat it for the price! If you have the chance, eat at Bistro West. We had a wonderful burger (meat actually takes good and cooked perfectly) and Mom had a Reuben. Both sandwiches were well made with real swiss cheese. The service was impeccable! Next time we visit we'd like to try their steak and seafood restaurant which has great reviews.

Room Tip: I had a room on the 2nd floor towards the back and it was quiet and peaceful. I did not hear other...

Overnight getaway

Spent one night for an event at Carlsbad and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Very clean, updated, quiet, exceptionally comfortable beds, and pillows, and linens. On site restaurant, which we didn't visit. Good complimentary breakfast. Room complete with all the amenities. Beach two blocks, walking distance. For families visiting Legoland, very close. Hotel staff willing to please. I enjoyed the close proximity to the Carlsbad outlet shopping mall. Mention AARP or AAA for a discount.
